Baker Lab: Research on Plant Transkingdom Innate Immunity
Plant Innate Immunity

Pathogen sensing proteins in plants and animals encode structurally and functionally conserved TIR domains (blue ovals).

Research in the Baker Lab focuses on understanding molecular-genetic and genomic mechanisms of host-microbe interactions. We are investigating mechanisms of pathogen induced disease and disease resistance. Our experimental system includes viral, bacterial and oomycete plant pathogens and their Solanaceae plant hosts. We anticipate that our studies will lead to new environmentally benign strategies for durable, broad-spectrum disease resistant crops. See our webserver at http://somart.ist.berkeley.edu/.
